having a 3" face, enables the user to belt from it same as from the regular 14 x 5", should he find the mill speeded too high to suit his power when belting from the regular pulley. In this way you have the advantage of a slow speed or a high speed without having to change the pulley. We make no extra charge when rigging the mill up in this way, but we must request that parties ordering mention in their order whether mill is to be rigged up with a 24" x 3" pulley, otherwise we will put a regular fly wheel on the mill,
Note the TWO HOPPERS used on these mills, one for SMALL GRAIN, the other for EAR CORN, thus mixing the feed thoroughly while being ground. When one kind of grain, or ear corn only, is to be ground you remove the top hopper (No. 10) and shaker (No. 17) and feed directly from the cob hopper (No. 12) (see sectional cut, page 21).
We make four styles of plates for: these mills: fine, medium, coarse and cotton seed discs, furnishing a pair each of fine and coarse with each mill unless otherwise directed in an order.
These mills grind damp or soft ear corn or small grain just as well as dry.
Instructions for running Mills Nos. 10 and 13
Screw or bolt the mill firmly fast. Oil all wearing parts before starting machine and oil occasionally thereafter. Ball Bearings as well as other wearing parts need lubricating frequently to insure mill to run cool and light. To grind Corn and Cobs, shovel the ears into Cob Hopper No. 12. To regulate flow of small grain from hopper No. 10 into feed shaker No. 17 and then into Cob Hopper No. 12, raise or lower valve No. 10 1/2. To regulate amount of product entering plates from crushing chamber, raise or lower regulating dam No. 21. With hand wheel No. 16 open or close the grinding plates until the required degree of fineness is attained, then set fast with jam nut lever No. 15, To renew plates, remove bolt that holds No, 61 (spring to bridge tree) to leg No. 35, then upper part of case No. 31/2, which is held in place with four bolts, then slide 3 1/2 off shaft; next release set screw which holds No. 22 (eccentric) on shaft and then slide running head No.5 off shaft, which releases tramming ring No.4, to which stationary plate is bolted, When replacing the plates on No, 4 and No.5, be sure to set them centrally, so that the edge of each plate is exactly even and on line with each other. The bolt holes in No.4 and No.5 are a little larger than the bolt holes in the plate attached thereto. so as to allow either or both plates to be moved up or down to get them perfectly central to each other. Uneven wearing of plates can be avoided by setting them true and even when renewing them. When changing plates, do not draw the bolts tight one at a time, but draw them up all together, gradually. Remove all particles of meal, if any should have lodged behind tramming ring, before replacing the parts and closing up the mill.
