also front journal cap No. 33, and back journal cap No. 38; then lift complete shaft out of mill. Release the two set screws which hold running head No.5 on shaft, then slide No.5, No. 42 and No.4 off shaft, then replace plate on No.5 and No.4. When changing plates, be sure to set them central; that is, edge of both plates must be exactly even and on line with each other. The bolt holes in No.4 and No.5 are a little larger than the bolt holes in the plates, to allow moving plates up or down to get them perfectly central to one another. If the running
plate on No.5 is a trifle lower than the stationary plate on No.4, or vice versa, the plates will wear uneven, and while the mill will grind if plates are put on in this way, they will wear out quicker. This can be avoided by setting plates true and even when renewing same. When changing plates do not draw up plate bolts tight one at a time, but draw them up together, gradually. If you remove pulley to change plates it is not necessary to disturb the running head No.5. If you do not remove pulley; be sure and put No.4 (to which stationary plate .is attached)
inside No. 42 and slip these two parts on shaft before putting running head No.5 in place. Remove all particles of meal, if any should have lodged behind tramming ring No.4, before replacing it and closing up the mill.
