"Millstone Dress" Patents 

This page contains patents for the "dress" of the stone, or the pattern of lands and grooves which make up the grinding surface of a millstone. It appears to me that there were probably as many styles of dress as there were manufacturers. The images on this page cover the period from 1840 to 1858.
